Funding after hours Emergency situations

10-16-18
I am wondering what other counties do for funding in after hours emergency situations?  For example our Social Workers are on call and want to get a homeless mom and kids a hotel room for the night.

Itasca County uses a combination of things. We have credit accounts set up at two local motels for emergency rooming. We keep a supply of various gift cards on hand. And sometimes a credit card is used.

Brown Co would use a women/kids only homeless shelter (house), Salvation Army dollars are available and the businesses we use will take a voucher or bill us if approved by the social worker.

In Clay County what typically happens is the on-call SWkrs will first refer to community resources we are aware of. If nothing available, the on-call SWkr will consult with Supervisor after hours and approval may be made to utilize Family Assessment flex funds or Emergency funds for the immediate situation. In this case we would ask the provider of the emergency service to bill us or if that is not possible we will put it on our County credit card.

We have a credit card that is specifically used for children's services, all children's social workers are authorized to use the card. We are small town, so all of the hotels in town are willing to send an invoice for payment after the fact.
