What is the best way to go about getting a Credit Card for emergencies and for holding hotels, without using our personal ones?

Itasca County banks at Wells Fargo and went through the process with Wells to have several county credit cards approved for the many Supervisors throughout the county.

We use US Bank but in a past position we used Wells Fargo and that system was significantly better than the US Bank system and that was 5 years ago. For our township we also use American Bank cards and those have worked reasonable well for our small entity, but it lacks the online system that both Wells Fargo and US Bank have.

Often you will have the choice of a department card, or a card holder card with an individual name. It is much easier to track down and assign responsibility to missing invoices when it’s on a specific individual’s card.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,
Christine

I will also mention that the county board should approve obtaining credit cards, and you should have a policy in place for credit card use. The Office of the State Auditor does have a Statement of Position on their website that can give some guidance.

We use US Bank, the county has a corporate account and is able to obtain cards for departments or individuals and set specific card limits.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.

At SWHHS, we have a credit card through Great Western Bank. It is one of the few we have found that doesn't require card holders social security numbers to be linked to that account.
