Budgeting for conference/meetings/training for staff 7-13-17

How do counties budget for conference/meetings/training for staff?  DO you allot a specific amount per staff, per department, etc?  What kind of expenses do you take into consideration when figuring-fees, lodging, meals, miles, etc?  Please let me know!  Trying to find a way to be more uniform across the board… also if you have policies on this, I’d be interested to see them!  Thank you in advance!

At Benton County we allocate $300 per staff. Each unit is given an amount to manage based on the number of staff they supervise. Grant funded training is not counted against this amount. Mileage, meals, registration and lodging is included. Units that do not expend their allocation may "gift" it to another unit. (Be nice to your colleagues!) We do not have an official training policy.

Interesting share on budgeting for conferences or meetings. I think it is very important thing to consider otherwise that can be a trouble for you if the expenses exceed. For our annual meeting we recently booked a fully equipped meeting space San Francisco and it was great. Their services were amazing.
