Public Health and billing UCare

6-25-18

In Norman County, our public health department is a separate entity, however, they are telling us that they cannot be added as a provider to bill UCare without being listed as a department under the Norman County Social Service office.  We have also had this issue in Availity, where we can see each other's information because we use the same tax ID number as "Norman County" and don't have a separate one for social services.  I'm wondering if this is normal/usual, as in Red Lake County, we do not have our own public health department, so have not run into this before.

Thank you for any info you can share so we know if this should be something we look further into, trying to get the health plans to see us as two distinct entities.

At Benton County there is one federal tax ID, the county tax ID, used for Human Services. For billing purposes Human Services has a NPI number using taxonomy code 251B00000X - Case Management and Public Health has a NPI number with taxonomy code 251K00000X - Public Health.

At Anoka County our Social Services and Public Health Department have different NPI numbers. That's how we are able to bill seperatly and receive seperate remittance for our billings. I would try obtaining a seperate NPI for Public Health versus the one you are currently using under Social Services. We use the same Tax ID and taxonomy number for both departments, just the NPI is different.
Thanks,

Same for Clay County - We have one tax ID number; however, each agency has their own NPI number. That is how the payments and remittance advices are kept separate.
