Unloaded Miles Question

Wadena County has been paying unloaded miles to volunteer drivers for those that are on PMAP and MA fee for service.  We have been doing this because we were able to offset our cost by the health plan reimbursement rates.  Now our primary provider (SCHA) does not reimburse the return trip unloaded miles.  We are looking closely at this cost for our 2019 budget.

Does your county pay drivers unloaded miles that are unreimbursed by health plans and if so, how much is your annual cost funded by the county?

Thank you.

Le Sueur County pays our contracted volunteer drivers a stipend of $6.00 for less than 10 unloaded miles and $12.00 for over 10 unloaded miles on each trip. We are finding it increasingly hard to get/retain volunteer drivers and this has been helpful. This is all county dollars.

St Louis pays unloaded miles for MA volunteer rides. The PMAP clients go thru their health plan for volunteer driver rides, so we do not pay anything on those.

Clearwater County pays unloaded miles for MA volunteer rides. The county cost for this in 2017 was $5,424.
