I received a bill for a 72 hour hold. The person had
UCare insurance (not State but private). The insurance was billed and EOB
was attached. They listed their allowed charge but did not pay and
instead put it towards the deductible. There is also an amount to be
written off. The facility has billed us for the deductible amount.
We were a little confused what they were asking us to pay but she said the
amount that was put towards the deductible or what we allow to pay. I
have always been told we do not pay more than the MA rate. How do I found
out what that is?
Thank you

Many counties have an agreement with their local hospital to pay the MA rate for uncompensated 72 hour holds. I ask the facility what the MA rate is that they are using with their local county PHHS and ask for that rate as a courtesy since it is never the local hospital in Cook County where there are holds.

Good question - I will check.
Hello,
I would be interested in knowing more about what counties are doing with this. I think the statute implies that counties have to pay the costs. Our internal policy states we will not pay these costs.

I believe our policy does as well. It says we are payor of last resort. The woman I spoke with at the facility didn't seem to know what the MA rate was either. I had been told by one facility that they couldn't bill the client.
At Benton our CD supervisor said our payment would depend on the host county contract.
