Depreciation vs. other for major remodel

We're looking at doing a major remodel.  Can you tell me if it's more cost effective for Social Services to pay increased rent to cover the cost or to expense it out & take the depreciation over a period of time? And why?  Would this apply to the furniture also?

Thanks for your help.

I would check Attachment C on the Social Services Fund Instructions.

Tough to answer this question because each county is different on their rate of return for social services .

Depends on how much cost you are talking about. If over 25k I have always been led to believe that it must be in the 6600 section and amortized; however, if added to rent that doesn't apply as rent is in the 6200 section. In our county building costs are paid by the revenue fund and charged back to us as "rent". Furniture costs are borne by us directly as supplies as long as they don't exceed 25k per item. Vehicles are depreciated no matter what the new cost is. Tough question with multiple possibilities of answers.
