Our director is interested in adding a MNCHOICES Social
Worker to our payroll, however, we will need to justify it to our board
members. Could you provide me with your county’s process to see if adding
a MNCHOICES worker was budget neutral? We obviously know the salary
information, I am more looking at what the reimbursements would be from adding
a worker. Anyone have a process they would like to share?

Good Morning Erin,
Rice County requested additional staff. We looked at our rate of return on the SS Cost pool for LTSS $. We used a projected cost pool with the new position included. Keep in mind for 2018 you will need to reduce your state portion for the legislative reduction.

I agree with Lisa. You'll want to take your LTSS rate of return not the full SSTS. The state and federal LTSS payments are directly related to the LTSS/MnChoices services being provided so you'll want to show that you'll get that much of your new position reimbursed. But, as Lisa said, remember to decrease your State portion in your estimate for 2018.
